The History of “The Sharkettes”- by Sharky
My wife is one of the most attractive women gracing the Earth and I have
felt that way since the first time I laid eyes on her; she is the reason behind
The Sharkettes.
I have always loved taking pictures but I wanted an outlet to showcase the
pictures I had taken of my wife because I truly believe they are just as good
(if not better) than a large majority of other “model” sites out there; so why
not have our own?
I didn’t want to be just another photographer on a site like Model Mayhem
and I didn’t want my wife to be just another girl posting pictures on
MySpace claiming to be a model; I wanted to create something from the
ground up that would promote both of us and give me a reason to become a
better photographer.
In June 2008, as I was brainstorming on how to do the site, it hit me; why
not feature other girls as well; make it a site full of gorgeous girls…girls that
might get overlooked from the other sites who are focused solely on making
money.
I know my wife has a few friends that are pretty sexy so why not kill two
birds with one stone; more gorgeous girls and more chances to improve my
photography.
I decided to focus the site on having a variety of gorgeous girls; I don’t find
just “ONE” type of girl attractive and most guys are like me; there are
gorgeous girls of all shapes, sizes and color but there aren’t many sites to
see them all at one time.
Most sites are focused on one type – you have your “pin up girls”, your
“BBW” and your “traditional” girls. It’s very rare to go to one site and see a
huge variety of models together. I wanted the Sharkettes site to be like a
music store; you wouldn’t separate the music by giving each type it’s own
store; you put them all in one store so no matter what a certain person likes,
they can find it at the same place.
You can go to the site and find the girls YOU find attractive because we
have something for everyone!
The site opened on July 9th, 2008 and we got a little over 12,000 hits our
first month.
The next month, I created a MySpace for the Sharkettes and used it to
promote and our numbers went to around 35,000 hits per month. I spent the
next several months tweaking the site and promoting the hell out of it and
we reached over 55,000 hits in December of 2008.
The only problem with the site is that as it grew, so did the number of emails
from girls wanting to be a part of it; the updates went from a few hours a
week to several hours a day and I just couldn’t keep up with it. I overhauled
the site in November 2008 and cut the number of models from 52 to 20 but
that upset models and fans and I quickly realized that it wouldn’t work.
In January 2009, I decided to do something drastic; I moved the entire site
to SharkysWorld.com. I consider The Sharkettes to be “The Girls of
SharkysWorld.com” so I felt they should actually BE on SharkysWorld.com.
I had also discovered an easier way to do everything and wanted to start
fresh.
Sharkettes.SharkysWorld.Com has taken off extremely fast thanks to the
new features and the amount of time it takes to update. I have cut the
updating time by about 95% so I can update several times a week and I can
have an UNLIMITED amount of models.
The number of visitors has dropped a bit but we saw that coming because
of the move; a lot of the links we have floating around link back to
Sharkettes.net and NOT the new site, so it will take a few months to build
up our traffic again but that isn’t a big issue.
The Sharkettes isn’t about money; it’s about being proud of who you are; it’
s about gorgeous women of all shapes, sizes and colors coming together to
show the world that you don’t have to fit one specific mold to be considered
beautiful.
